It was a scorching summer day. A colony of hardworking ants toiled diligently, carrying food to prepare for the upcoming winter. Meanwhile, beneath the shade of a tree, a group of grasshoppers engaged in playful activities.
Curious, one grasshopper questioned an ant, "Why are you working so diligently on such a hot day?" The ant responded, "Because we can't find food in winter, so we're gathering supplies for the colder months." The grasshopper, teasingly, remarked, "It's too early to worry about winter. You're foolish to work on such a hot day."
This comment angered the ant, prompting a sharp retort, "Well, go and play! You'll regret it when winter arrives."
As summer faded away, winter descended. The grasshopper struggled to locate food, facing both the biting cold and persistent hunger. Desperate, he sought refuge at the ant's dwelling, knocking on the door.
"Mr. Ant, I'm freezing and famished. I'm dying. Please, can you spare me something to eat?" he pleaded. The ant opened the door and sternly declared, "Mr. Grasshopper, you frolicked and sang, mocking us during the summer. Now, go and entertain yourself." Days later, the grasshopper perished in the snow.
This story tells us: Diligence and early preparation are keys to success, while laziness and procrastination may lead to difficulties. |
