**LESSON ONE** **The Cat and the Rabbit** **A** 1. The cat enjoys feasting on fish. 2. Unfortunately, the cat doesn't possess a fish. 3. On the bright side, the cat owns a carrot. 4. Regrettably, the cat has no interest in munching on carrots. 5. Conversely, the rabbit has a fondness for carrots. 6. Yet, the rabbit finds itself lacking a carrot. 7. Surprisingly, the rabbit possesses a fish. 8. However, the rabbit doesn't indulge in eating fish. 9. Engaging in conversation, the cat says to the rabbit, 10. "I have a liking for fish, 11. But alas, I find myself without one." **B** 1. Announcing proudly, "I have a carrot," 2. Sadly, the cat refrains from consuming carrots. 3. Pointing out, "You relish carrots, 4. Yet, you lack a carrot." 5. Meanwhile, the cat has a fish, 6. Strangely, the cat abstains from consuming fish. 7. Suggesting a solution, "You can have my carrot, 8. And in return, I'll take your fish." 9. In response, the rabbit conveys to the cat, 10. "I fancy carrots, 11. But, alas, I am without one." **C** 1. Asserting, "I possess a fish, 2. Sadly, I abstain from consuming fish." 3. Pointing out, "You have a liking for fish, 4. Yet, you lack a fish." 5. Meanwhile, the cat has a carrot, 6. Strangely, the cat refrains from consuming carrots. 7. Suggesting an exchange, "You can have my fish, 8. And in return, I'll take your carrot." 9. Agreeing, the cat says, "OK," 10. Simultaneously, the rabbit says, "OK," 11. Together, they all say, "OK." **D** 1. Kindly, the cat hands the carrot to the rabbit. 2. Generously, the rabbit offers the fish to the cat. 3. Gratefully, the cat expresses thanks to the rabbit. 4. With satisfaction, the cat indulges in devouring the fish. 5. Expressing gratitude, the rabbit thanks the cat. 6. With delight, the rabbit savors the carrot. 7. Overjoyed, the cat expresses happiness. 8. Similarly, the rabbit beams with happiness. 9.
