Lesson 9 It Doesn't Matter

Zhang Qingshan worked as a farmer at a construction site in the city.

He wanted to make money for his two kids' education and his parents' medical bills.

One day, after getting his paycheck, he went downtown to buy medicine for his mom at the pharmacy.

As he left the pharmacy, he ran into a coworker who was buying a lottery ticket next to the store.

His coworker encouraged Qingshan to try his luck and buy a lottery ticket too.

With the little change he had left from purchasing his mom's medicine, he decided to buy a ticket for two Yuan.

After he returned to his work shed, he put the lottery ticket inside one of his bags and forgot about it.

Three months later, during lunch, a coworker mentioned he had spent 1000 Yuan on lottery tickets but never won anything.

Then, he talked about someone who won the 1 million prize but hadn’t claimed it yet.

Hearing this, Qingshan suddenly remembered his own lottery ticket.

He found it and went to the lottery stand with his coworkers.

There, he was told he had won the jackpot, but since he didn’t turn it in before the deadline, he couldn’t claim the money.

Everyone felt bad for Qingshan, but he said, "It's okay. I wouldn’t even know how to spend 1 million Yuan anyway."
