Lesson 18  Quack Doctor

In life, when you face tough challenges, there will always be people pretending to offer help.

They claim to cure serious illnesses like advanced cancer, hepatitis B, skin conditions, myasthenia gravis, kidney failure, diabetes, and femoral head necrosis with just a few doses of their secret remedy.

Smart and well-informed people ignore such claims, but those who are desperate and uninformed might seek out these fake doctors.

Even smart folks might try their luck with a quack when a serious illness leaves them feeling hopeless.

The thing about quacks is they never give up; as long as the patient is breathing, they'll keep convincing their supporter to buy their medicine.

If the family agrees, they might even try to administer the medicine to someone who has passed, claiming it can bring them back if continued.

Quacks are unique; they all share a persuasive psychological trait.

After spending a lot of money, missing real treatment opportunities, or even losing a loved one, the only "benefit" is holding onto false hope.

Besides claiming to cure the incurable, these con artists also promise quick, easy wealth through investment schemes.

They invent fast money-making schemes to swindle those eager for easy riches.

Anyone who believes them ends up losing all their money, whether it's theirs or borrowed.

These swindlers don't need to convince you; there are always people who will believe them.

They're modern-day snake oil salesmen, now appearing on TV, in newspapers, and online as experts, using high-tech jargon to sell their scams.

They create pseudo-scientific theories, repeating them until someone falls for it.

Now, they're applying their skills to teaching English, promising you can memorize hundreds of words in an hour or become fluent in a month.

Their trained speakers can make you excited during a lesson, convincing you to buy their worthless, nicely packaged products, which you'll just end up tossing aside.

Essentially, you're left with products you'll never use again after the initial excitement wears off.
