Sixth grade rewrite Thinking as a Hobby 【1】When I was a boy, I thought about thinking. I thought there were three levels of thinking, and I thought I couldn't think at all. My school's headmaster made me think about this. He had three small statues in his office. One was a lady with just a towel. She looked worried that the towel might fall. Next to her was a leopard ready to jump. And there was a strong man sitting, looking down, very unhappy. 【2】The headmaster told me these statues were like life. The lady was Love, the leopard was Nature, and the strong man was Thought. I often went to his office because I was in trouble. I felt bad and couldn't talk to him. He once put the statue of Thought in front of me and said, "This is what a man looks like when he's really thinking." 【3】I started to watch my teachers to learn about thinking. Mr. Houghton always told me to think. But he drank a lot and talked about the good life. He would get excited and take us outside in bad weather. He would say, "Feel the fresh air!" But then he would go back to his desk and be tired for the rest of the day. 【4】Mr.Houghton also talked about duty and being good. But if a girl walked by, he would watch her. He didn't seem to think about what he was doing. He thought with his neck, not his head. I learned that thinking can be full of hidden feelings and not always good. 【5】I also saw that some people don't like to think too much. They like to agree with others and not think about things too deeply. They like to be happy and not worry too much. But I wanted to be a good thinker. I wanted to make a system for living that was logical and good. I wanted to change the world. 【6】But I found out that it's hard to change people's minds. They like things the way they are. I lost friends and got a bad name because I tried to change things. But I didn't stop thinking. I decided to be a professional thinker. I wanted to understand the world and make it better, even if it was hard.
