1. Vernon Dursley

Vernon Dursley is Harry's uncle and the head of the Dursley family. He is the director of a firm called Grunnings, and is a rigid, stubborn man with a deep aversion to anything abnormal or supernatural. Vernon has no interest in the magical world and is extremely hostile towards it. He treats Harry very harshly, often neglecting and abusing him. After Harry is left at the Dursleys' doorstep, Vernon and his wife Petunia decide to hide Harry's magical background, hoping he would become a “normal” person. They force Harry to live in a cupboard under the stairs, wear Dudley's old clothes, and never celebrate his birthday. Vernon's hostility and coldness make Harry's life at the Dursleys extremely difficult. However, this harsh treatment also makes Harry more resilient and independent in facing challenges and injustice.

2. Petunia Dursley

Petunia Dursley is Harry's aunt and the sister of Harry's mother, Lily. Like her husband Vernon, Petunia has a deep-seated aversion to the magical world. She has been jealous of Lily's magical abilities since childhood, which translates into cold and harsh treatment towards Harry. Petunia and Vernon decide to hide Harry's true identity, hoping to keep him away from the magical world. Petunia is very strict with Harry, making him do most of the household chores and belittling him in front of Dudley. Despite her harsh exterior, there is a part of Petunia that still feels some residual affection for her sister Lily, which is hinted at in later books. Petunia's character represents the fear and prejudice that ordinary people can have towards the unknown and the misunderstood.

3. Dudley Dursley

Dudley Dursley is Harry's cousin and the spoiled son of Vernon and Petunia. He is selfish, arrogant, and frequently bullies Harry. Dudley grows up pampered with an abundance of toys and pocket money, while Harry lives a life of neglect and abuse. Dudley treats Harry poorly, often mocking and tormenting him. Despite his dominant behavior at home, Dudley shows cowardice when faced with real danger and fear. After Harry goes to Hogwarts, their relationship improves slightly as Dudley begins to realize Harry's importance. Dudley's character illustrates the negative traits that can develop in a child who is excessively spoiled and protected.

4. Albus Dumbledore

Albus Dumbledore is the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and one of the greatest wizards of the magical world. He is wise, kind, and possesses extraordinary magical abilities and insight. Dumbledore knew of Harry's significance from the moment he was born and decided to place him with the Dursleys after his parents' death, hoping he would grow up safely away from the dangers of the magical world. Dumbledore understands Harry's crucial role in the fight against Voldemort and offers guidance and protection once Harry enters Hogwarts. He is respected for his wisdom and kindness by both students and staff, though he also harbors many secrets that unfold throughout the series. Dumbledore symbolizes benevolence, wisdom, and the steadfast resistance against dark forces.

5. Professor Minerva McGonagall

Professor Minerva McGonagall is the Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts and head of Gryffindor House. She is a strict, upright, and wise witch who can transform into a cat. McGonagall has high expectations of her students but also cares deeply for them. She is very concerned with the well-being and development of Harry and other students. On the night Harry is left at the Dursleys' doorstep, she witnesses the event with Dumbledore and supports the decision. As the Transfiguration professor, McGonagall demonstrates remarkable skill in her subject, inspiring a love for magic in her students. Her character represents a strict but fair approach to education and a firm commitment to justice and courage.
