He first appears to warn Harry Potter about the dangers awaiting him at Hogwarts if he returns for his second year. Dobby’s attempts to protect Harry include blocking his access to Platform 9¾ and sabotaging a Quidditch match by enchanting a Bludger to attack Harry. Despite his sometimes harmful actions, Dobby’s intentions are pure, aiming to keep Harry safe. By the end of the book, Harry tricks Lucius Malfoy into freeing Dobby by presenting him with a sock, which marks Dobby’s emancipation.
