His incompetence is evident throughout the school year, particularly during a disastrous lesson involving Cornish Pixies. Lockhart's true nature is revealed when it is discovered that he has been taking credit for other wizards' achievements by erasing their memories. His final act of cowardice occurs when he attempts to flee the school but ends up accidentally erasing his own memory with a backfired spell.
