The first lesson Our English teacher, Ms. Chen, wrote a sentence on the board and said, "Please write this down." We began to write. I wrote the first word and then paused. "I don't think that's right. But is it okay to point out a mistake? Is it polite on the first day?" I wondered silently. "Why aren't you writing, Wang Han?" Ms. Chen asked. I looked up at her. My mouth felt dry as our eyes met. Then I thought about the sentence's meaning. I raised my hand. "Ms. Chen, there's a mistake," I said. "That quote is from Confucius, not Mencius." "Well done, Wang Han," Ms. Chen replied with a smile. "This is an important lesson for all of you as you start junior high school. Learning will be more challenging. It's crucial to think carefully in your studies. Please remember this always." It was a really important lesson! |
