WITHIN A PLANT It's 7:15 in the morning. Meet Worker No. 55 dressed in a green uniform. He's ready to begin his job at the factory. Worker No. 55 works in Workshop 1001 located in the Leaf of the plant. Each workshop has between 20 to 100 workers. During the day, they collect sunlight and CO2. Meanwhile, workers from the Root send water up through the Stem to the Leaf. There, workers in the Leaf combine water, CO2, and sunlight. What do they produce? The most important product for them is sugar! It helps the plant grow. Another important product is oxygen, although plants don’t need much of it. However, it’s crucial for animals and humans because they need it to breathe! These workers work diligently. As the day turns to night, they will take a break. There are millions of plants on Earth. They provide more than just food and oxygen. Without plants, the natural world would be very different! |
