As dead as a dodo Are you looking at me? Do you know who I am? I’m a dodo! You might think I’m just a fictional character from "Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland." But in reality, there used to be thousands of us—really! Now, you can only see us in museums. We lived on an island in the Indian Ocean. Back in the good old days, there was always plenty of food, and all the other animals were friendly. It was a peaceful and safe place. However, in 1598, humans arrived. They cut down all the trees, and our beautiful forest disappeared. They hunted us because we were slow and couldn’t fly. Also, their pigs, cats, and dogs ate our eggs. Because of this, we quickly went extinct. So now, we’re displayed in museums all around the world. When you see us, please remember our sad story. The world is full of amazing animals. Try your best to help them and make them as happy as possible, instead of letting them go extinct like us. |
