As dead as a dodo You might think that the dodo is just a fictional character from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, but it was once a real bird. There used to be thousands of us dodos living on an island in the Indian Ocean, but today, you can only see our remains in museums. In our heyday, life was quite pleasant. We lived on an island with abundant food and friendly animals. It was a peaceful and secure existence. Unfortunately, everything changed in 1598 when humans arrived. They began to cut down the trees, destroying our beautiful forest. They hunted us because we were slow and flightless. To make matters worse, their pigs, cats, and dogs ate our eggs. As a result, we were driven to extinction. Now, our kind is represented in museums around the world. When you see our display, please remember our tragic story. The world is filled with incredible animals, and it’s important to do everything we can to protect them. Let’s ensure that we help keep these animals safe and thriving, rather than allowing them to suffer the same fate as the dodo.
