Pigeon Surprise

We’re studying birds for Bird Week at school. Some kids got penguins, which is pretty cool. But I have to write about... pigeons!

I’m watching pigeons in the park now. They just wander around all morning, leaving droppings everywhere. Pigeons seem so boring and dirty!

A girl is feeding them, and the birds are flying towards her like crazy. They’re kind of scary!

I did some online research and found out that pigeons can recognize themselves in mirrors. That’s surprising! Are they really that smart? I decided to give them another chance and watch them again.

Back at the park, I saw a pigeon looking at its reflection in the water. Maybe I was wrong about pigeons.

Now I’m reading in the library. I found out there are over 200 kinds of pigeons. Some can fly thousands of kilometers without getting lost. They can also fly at speeds over 100 kilometers per hour—that’s as fast as my dad’s car!

Well, pigeons aren’t boring or scary. They’re actually amazing—I just didn’t know enough about them!

我们学校正在进行鸟类周的研究。一些孩子得到了企鹅，这真是太酷了。但我得写关于……鸽子的文章！

我现在正在公园里观察鸽子。它们整个早上都在四处闲逛，到处留下粪便。鸽子看起来真是无聊又脏！

有个女孩在喂它们，鸽子像疯了一样飞向她。有点吓人！

我在网上查了一些资料，发现鸽子能认出镜子里的自己。这太令人惊讶了！它们真的那么聪明吗？我决定再给它们一次机会，再去观察一下。

回到公园，我看到一只鸽子在看水中的倒影。也许我对鸽子有误解。

现在我在图书馆阅读。我发现有超过200种鸽子。有些鸽子可以飞行数千公里而不会迷路。它们还能以每小时100多公里的速度飞行——这和我爸爸的车一样快！

嗯，鸽子并不是无聊或吓人的。它们实际上非常令人惊叹——只是我对它们了解得不够多！
