The first lesson As our English teacher, Ms. Chen, stood before us, she wrote a sentence on the blackboard and instructed, "Please take notes." We obediently began to write. I started jotting down the first word but hesitated, unsure if it was correct. Should I point out the mistake? Was it polite to do so on the first day? "Why aren't you writing, Wang Han?" Ms. Chen's inquiry broke my thoughts. I glanced up at her, feeling nervous as our eyes met. Then, considering the meaning of the sentence, I gathered my courage and raised my hand. "Ms. Chen, there's a mistake," I spoke up. "That quote is from Confucius, not Mencius." "Well done, Wang Han," Ms. Chen acknowledged with a nod. "In fact, this is your first lesson in junior high. Learning here will present greater challenges. It's crucial to engage your critical thinking skills." Her words resonated deeply with us all. "Always remember this." That lesson left a lasting impression on me. |
