The first lesson

As our English teacher, Ms. Chen, stood before us, she wrote a sentence on the blackboard and instructed, "Please take notes." We obediently began to write. I started jotting down the first word but hesitated, unsure if it was correct. Should I point out the mistake? Was it polite to do so on the first day?

"Why aren't you writing, Wang Han?" Ms. Chen's inquiry broke my thoughts. I glanced up at her, feeling nervous as our eyes met.

Then, considering the meaning of the sentence, I gathered my courage and raised my hand. "Ms. Chen, there's a mistake," I spoke up. "That quote is from Confucius, not Mencius."

"Well done, Wang Han," Ms. Chen acknowledged with a nod. "In fact, this is your first lesson in junior high. Learning here will present greater challenges. It's crucial to engage your critical thinking skills." Her words resonated deeply with us all. "Always remember this."

That lesson left a lasting impression on me.

当我们的英语老师陈老师站在我们面前时，她在黑板上写下一句话，并指示道：“请做好笔记。”我们乖乖开始写下来。我刚写下第一个词就停了下来，不确定它是否正确。我应该指出这个错误吗？在第一天这样做是否礼貌？

“王晗，你怎么不写呢？”陈老师的询问打破了我的思绪。我抬起头看着她，眼神交汇，感到紧张。

然后，考虑到这句话的意义，我鼓起勇气举起了手。“陈老师，有一个错误，”我开口说道，“这句话是孔子说的，不是孟子。”

“干得好，王晗。”陈老师点头赞许道。“事实上，这是你们初中的第一堂课。在这里学习会面临更大的挑战。关键是要运用你们的批判性思维。”她的话深深地触动了我们所有人。“请记住这一点。”

这堂课给我留下了深刻的印象。
