Pigeon Surprise

We’re studying birds for Bird Week at school. Some lucky kids got to write about penguins, but I ended up with... pigeons.

Right now, I’m watching pigeons in the park. They’ve been wandering around aimlessly all morning, leaving droppings everywhere. Pigeons are BORING and DIRTY!

There’s a girl feeding them, and all the birds are flying madly towards her. They’re SCARY!

I decided to do some online research and discovered something surprising. Pigeons can recognize themselves in mirrors. Who knew they were so clever? Maybe I should give them another chance.

Back at the park, I saw a pigeon looking at its reflection in the water. Maybe I was wrong about them.

Later, at the library, I learned that there are over 200 kinds of pigeons. Some can fly thousands of kilometers without getting lost and can reach speeds of over 100 km per hour. That’s as fast as my dad’s car!

Pigeons aren’t boring or scary after all. They are AMAZING—I just didn’t know enough about them before!

我们学校在鸟类周学习鸟类。一些幸运的孩子可以写关于企鹅的报告，但我却分到了...鸽子。

现在，我正在公园里观察鸽子。它们整个早上都在无目的地游荡，到处留下鸟粪。鸽子真是无聊又肮脏！

有一个女孩在喂它们，所有的鸟都疯狂地飞向她。它们真是吓人！

我决定做一些在线研究，发现了一些令人惊讶的事情。鸽子能认出镜子里的自己。谁知道它们这么聪明？也许我应该再给它们一个机会。

回到公园时，我看到一只鸽子在看水中的倒影。也许我之前对它们的看法是错的。

后来，在图书馆里，我了解到世界上有超过200种鸽子。有些鸽子可以飞行几千公里而不会迷路，飞行速度甚至能超过每小时100公里。这和我爸爸的车一样快！
