The Chocolate Queen

My mommy always says that she is the chocolate queen,

born with a special chocolate gene.

Mommy keeps the chocolate all for herself,

way up high on the top shelf.

Early in the morning, I climb up to reach,

leaning just so on my tiptoes and feet.

As I take a scrumptious bite, mommy is standing off to my right.

Now that I discovered her secret space,

Mommy tickles me and says, "You found my hiding place!"

In the afternoon, at Grandma's house, there is always one bar.

But like magic, mommy spots it from afar.

"Where did the chocolate go?" Grandma asks.

My brother and I are taken to task.

After a few minutes, mommy comes clean,

laughing, and explains, "It's just my chocolate gene."

I love chocolate too, 

dark, milk, and even fizzled goo.

Chocolate ice cream is always great,

drizzled and dipped and melted inside and sipped.

In the evening, mommy gives me a few nibbles.

"We've got to start the bath," she says, "no more giggles."

After the bath, I brush my teeth.

Then really loud, I shout, "I need something to eat!"

At lightning speed, I run downstairs.

I think I'll find some chocolate there.

But out of the corner, at a rapid pace,

mommy is running to clean my face.

I'm hungry, mommy.

I need something to eat.

A little piece of chocolate,

and I promise,I'll go straight to sleep.

Mommy tucks me in, the blanket covers my feet.

"It's time to be quiet now, even with chocolate in my teeth."

Mommy smiles and shakes her head with a little glee.

"I love you, darling," she says, "you're a lot like me."

I sure love cocoa beans mixed with sugar and cream.

I think I'm also a chocolate queen,

born with a special chocolate gene.
