The World House

【1】A long time ago, a writer wrote down an idea for a story. It was about a big family, who were all very different from each other, and they had to live together in the same house. This is like our world today. We all live in a big "world house," where people of different races, cultures, and religions must live together peacefully.

【2】Even though American Black people are trying hard to find their place in the United States, we all share this world house. If we only focus on equality in America but ignore the rest of the world, we won't solve the bigger problems like poverty and war.

【3】Today, everyone in the world is closer than ever before. This is because of science and technology. For example, a hundred years ago, there were no electric lights, airplanes, or radios. People didn't have the tools to communicate or travel as we do now. Science has given us many amazing things, but also some scary things like powerful weapons.

【4】As time goes on, science will keep advancing. We might walk on the moon or fly across the ocean in just a few hours. Medicine will help people live longer, and machines will give us more free time. But with all these changes, we need to make sure we don't forget about kindness and fairness.

【5】Over the past few decades, people all around the world have been fighting for freedom. The Civil Rights Movement in the United States is part of a bigger global change where people want to end oppression and be treated fairly. This is a time of great change, and we must stay awake and pay attention, or we might miss it, like the man in the story of Rip Van Winkle, who slept through a revolution.

【6】We need to learn to live together as brothers and sisters in this big world house. If we don't, we might destroy ourselves. We must work hard to close the gap between our scientific knowledge and our moral values. Right now, we are rich in things, but poor in spirit. Western countries have a lot of material wealth, but it hasn't brought peace or happiness.

【7】It's not about going back to old ways, like using horses instead of cars. Science has brought us many good things, but we need to use it wisely. If we focus too much on the outside world and forget about what's inside us, we will bring about our own downfall.

【8】To live happily in this world house, we need to strengthen our moral character and social justice. Without a spiritual and moral awakening, we might misuse the very tools that were meant to help us.
