 The Encounter in Front of the House Alice saw a fish servant delivering a letter to a frog servant who was sitting at the door. The letter was an invitation from the Queen asking the Duchess to play croquet. Alice went up and knocked on the door, but the frog servant gave absurd reasons for not opening it for her and even said that he intended to sit there for several days. At that moment, the door suddenly opened a crack and a plate flew out, brushing past the frog servant's nose, yet he didn't react at all.

The Chaos Inside the House Alice opened the door by herself and went in. She saw the Duchess holding a baby who kept crying and sneezing. A cook was pouring pepper into the soup, which made the whole room filled with the smell of pepper and everyone kept sneezing. There was also a Cheshire Cat sitting by the fireplace, grinning all the time. The Duchess was very rude to Alice, and the cook casually threw things at the Duchess and the baby.
