学英语，到底是为了什么？

很多家长都把考试当成了英语学习的最终目标，而忽略了英语本身是一项终身受益的能力。

Many parents see exams as the ultimate goal of learning English, forgetting that English itself is a lifelong skill.

今天的英语教育出现了一个耐人寻味的现象：一些英语是母语的人，去做中国的中考、高考英语试卷，未必能够取得很高的分数；而不少考试成绩优秀的学生，却不能自然地与外国人交流，听不懂新闻，看不懂电影，也难以表达自己的真实想法。

Today's English education presents an interesting paradox. Some native English speakers may not score highly on Chinese entrance examinations, while many students who achieve excellent exam results still struggle to communicate naturally in English. They may have difficulty understanding the news, following movies, or expressing their own thoughts fluently.

这说明，考试能力和英语能力，并不是完全相同的概念。

This shows that exam skills and real English proficiency are not exactly the same thing.

当然，我并不反对把考试成绩作为阶段性的目标。对于许多学生来说，升学非常重要，优先提高考试成绩是一种现实而合理的选择。

Of course, I do not oppose focusing on exams. For many students, entrance examinations are extremely important, and improving test scores is a practical and reasonable priority.

但是，无论是家长、老师还是学生，都应该回到英语学习的第一性原理，认真思考一个问题：我们学习英语，到底是为了什么？

However, parents, teachers, and students should all return to the first principles of language learning and ask one simple question: Why are we learning English?

不同的目标，决定不同的学习方法。

Different goals require different learning strategies.

如果目标是升学，就应该增加应试训练；如果目标是出国留学、国际交流或未来工作，就应该把更多时间投入到英语实际应用能力的培养；如果希望两者兼顾，就需要科学安排学习内容，在应试与实用之间找到平衡。

If your goal is to pass important exams, then exam-oriented practice deserves more attention. If your goal is studying abroad, international communication, or future career development, then practical English should become your priority. If you want both, you need a balanced learning plan that develops exam skills without sacrificing real communication.

真正重要的，不是别人怎样学习，而是清楚自己的目标，并勇敢地作出适合自己的选择。

The most important thing is not to copy someone else's learning path, but to understand your own goals and have the courage to choose the path that fits you best.

教育最大的价值，不是让所有人走同一条路，而是帮助每个人找到最适合自己的道路。

The greatest value of education is not making everyone follow the same road. It is helping every learner discover and confidently choose the road that suits them best.
