Chapter Three
Sailing Along the African Coast
第三章
沿着非洲海岸航行
A
1、Our boat was small and we had to sail along the coast.
2、We had only a little water and food in the boat so sometimes we had to go onto the shore.
3、It was dangerous country with wild animals.
4、We were lucky that we had guns with us.
5、We killed animals for food and got water in streams.
B
1、We sailed on south for twelve days down the coast of Africa.
2、We got to a land where we saw some local people on the shore.
3、They did not look friendly, but we had nothing to eat or drink.
4、We really needed their help.
5、Although we were afraid, we got on shore carefully.
C
1、They were afraid of us, too.
2、We did not know each other's language， but it was easy to show them that we needed food and water.
3、They left some food and water and then moved away, watching us from nearby.
4、We carried the food to our boat.
5、I wanted to thank them but we had nothing to give them.
6、We bowed to them to show our thanks.
D
1、Just then,two leopards came out of the woods and ran to the shore.
2、The people were very afraid and cried out.
3、I took my gun quickly and shot the first one.
4、The loud noise of the gun and the smoke scared away the second one.
5、The people were scared, too.
6、They were too scared to run away.
E
1、I showed them with my hands that we were friendly and they could take away the dead leopard.
2、They were so happy that they gave us more food and water, which was just what we wanted.
3、With a lot of food and water in the boat, we sailed on.
F
1、About ten days later, we got near the Cape Verde Islands.
2、Suddenly Xury saw a ship and yelled to me.
3、I looked and saw a ship which was very far.
4、We sailed as quickly as we could and shouted to it.
5、But the people on the ship did not see us and they sailed on.
6、I took out the guns and fired.
7、They heard the noise and saw the smoke.
8、A few minutes later, the ship turned and sailed towards us.
