Green ribbon
Andrews was a boy.
He was 8 years old.
He was in grade three.
One day a new girl came to his class.
The girl's name was Jane.
Jane's seat was next to Andrews's.
She always wore a green ribbon around her neck.
Andrews and Jane became good friends.
One day Andrews asked Jane
"Why do you always wear the green ribbon?"
Jane said
"I can not tell you!"
Eight years passed.
Andrews and Jane were in Grade 12.
They were still in one class.
Jane still wore the green ribbon.
They were leaving high school.
Andrew asked Jane
"Why do you always wear the green ribbon?"
Jane said
"I can not tell you!"
Five years passed.
Andrews and Jane got married.
Jane still wore the green ribbon.
After the wedding,Andrews said to Jane
"Now I am your husband.
And you are my wife.
Can you tell me
why you always wear the green ribbon?
Jane said
"My dear!It is not time to tell you!
Please don't ask again.
I will tell you when the time comes."
Many years passed.
Andrews and Jane became old.
Jane still wore the green ribbon.
One day,Jane was very ill.
A doctor came.
He told Jane that she was dying.
After the doctor left,
Jane called Andrews to the bed.
She held her husband's hand.
She said to Andrews
"My dear,now it is time to tell you
why I always wear the green ribbon.
Please untie the ribbon."
Very carefully,Andrews untied the ribbon.
Jane's head fell to the ground! |
