Chapter Eight
Bruno did not want to be a mouse any longer(1)
While people were chasing and beating the witch mice, Bruno's mother screamed holding round Mr.Jackins' neck. As soon as they got home,
Mrs. Jackens went into the bedroom and buried her head in bed to cry.
Now Mr. Jackins was much more reasonable than his wife, he was a successful businessman after all.
Sitting on the sofa, he was trying to calm himself, thinking about how to deal with such a situation, how to comfort his wife and make her face the reality. After quite a while, Mrs.Jackins stopped crying, her tears were limited after all.
Seeing that his wife had stopped crying, Mr.Jackins went up to her and said, "Honey, let's take our time to find a way, Bruno might be able to turn back into a boy again."
Bruno, who was playing in the room, heard his father and yelled, "I don't want to be a boy again. I don't want to go to school. I don't want to do homework.
I hate the school, I hate the teachers. I hate to play with the schoolmates. I only want to stay at home ,eat and play as I like." Mr. and Mrs. Jackins spoiled their son and so Bruno did what he liked.
Hearing Bruno speaking as usual, Mrs. Jackins had a great pity for her son. She went over and took Bruno in her hands and comforted him, "Poor honey, you are right, be a mouse and don't go to school." Mr. Jackins kept his mind on how to turn the mouse back into a boy. Bruno ordered his mother, "I want to go to the kitchen, you go and open the refrigerator for me!" Mrs.Jackins hurried to the kitchen with Bruno and opened the refrigerator door. Bruno found something to eat and went to the drawing room to watch cartoons. Mrs.Jackins thought of her favorite pet which was a grey Persian cat named Topsy.
She had been staying at the neighbor's home since the Jackins went to take the vacation, Mrs.Jackins said to her husband, "My dear,how about my Topsy, I miss her very much, Can she come back? Will she eat Bruno?" Mr.Jackins said, "Our Topsy grew up on catfood, she never ate any mice before. We can bring her home and keep an eye on her to see what will happen before we make a further decision," The next day, Mrs.Jackins went to the neighbor's home and brought Topsy home. |
