WITHIN A PLANT It's 7:15. Here is Worker No. 55 in his green uniform. He's starting work in the plant. Worker No. 55 works in Workshop 1001 in the Leaf. Each workshop has 20 to 100 workers. They collect sunlight and CO2 during the day. Workers from the Root send water up. The water travels to the Leaf through the Stem. In the Leaf, workers mix water, CO2, and sunlight. What will they make? Most importantly, they will make sugar! Sugar helps the plant grow. They also make oxygen, which animals and humans need to breathe, even though plants don't need much of it. The workers work hard. When it gets dark, they will rest. There are millions of plants on Earth. They provide more than just food and oxygen. Without plants, the world would be very different! |
