Dobby: Dobby is a house-elf who serves the Malfoy family. Unlike other house-elves, Dobby seeks freedom and detests the cruelty of his masters, particularly Lucius Malfoy. He first appears to warn Harry Potter about the dangers awaiting him at Hogwarts if he returns for his second year. Dobby’s attempts to protect Harry include blocking his access to Platform 9¾ and sabotaging a Quidditch match by enchanting a Bludger to attack Harry. Despite his sometimes harmful actions, Dobby’s intentions are pure, aiming to keep Harry safe. By the end of the book, Harry tricks Lucius Malfoy into freeing Dobby by presenting him with a sock, which marks Dobby’s emancipation.
Gilderoy Lockhart: Gilderoy Lockhart is the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts. He is a famous author known for his supposedly heroic exploits, detailed in his many best-selling books. However, Lockhart is more concerned with fame and self-promotion than genuine bravery or teaching. His incompetence is evident throughout the school year, particularly during a disastrous lesson involving Cornish Pixies. Lockhart's true nature is revealed when it is discovered that he has been taking credit for other wizards' achievements by erasing their memories. His final act of cowardice occurs when he attempts to flee the school but ends up accidentally erasing his own memory with a backfired spell.
Tom Riddle: Tom Marvolo Riddle, initially introduced through an enchanted diary, is revealed to be the memory of a young Voldemort. The diary allows Riddle to possess Ginny Weasley, forcing her to reopen the Chamber of Secrets and unleash the basilisk. As a student at Hogwarts fifty years earlier, Riddle framed Hagrid for the attacks and aspired to rid the school of Muggle-borns. Through the diary, Riddle manipulates events to revive his power. Harry ultimately destroys the diary, vanquishing Riddle’s memory and saving Ginny, but the encounter underscores Voldemort’s enduring threat. |
