An Unusual Spring Festival It was my first Spring Festival in the UK, and I wanted to treat my British friend, Emilia, to a Chinese dinner. She is a nice girl and sometimes cooks for me. However, I faced a challenge. Although I often watched my Grandma cook, I had never cooked anything myself. It was midnight in China, the traditional time for making dumplings. My whole family came to my aid over the phone. In one hour, I became a chef! I even made some cucumber flowers. After Emilia decorated the dining room with balloons and lanterns, I put the final dish on the table. "This is the lion's head!" "Are you joking? Isn't that against the law?" Emilia was shocked. I laughed. "It's a pork meatball. My family always has it at the Spring Festival. Its round shape symbolizes family reunions. Try it!" Emilia cut a piece with her knife and put it into her mouth. "I love it!" she said. The aroma of the dishes and our laughter filled the room. I felt like I was back home. |
