Pigeon Surprise

We’re studying birds for Bird Week at school. Some kids got penguins, which is pretty cool. But I have to write about... pigeons!

I’m watching pigeons in the park now. They just wander around all morning, leaving droppings everywhere. Pigeons seem so boring and dirty!

A girl is feeding them, and the birds are flying towards her like crazy. They’re kind of scary!

I did some online research and found out that pigeons can recognize themselves in mirrors. That’s surprising! Are they really that smart? I decided to give them another chance and watch them again.

Back at the park, I saw a pigeon looking at its reflection in the water. Maybe I was wrong about pigeons.

Now I’m reading in the library. I found out there are over 200 kinds of pigeons. Some can fly thousands of kilometers without getting lost. They can also fly at speeds over 100 kilometers per hour—that’s as fast as my dad’s car!

Well, pigeons aren’t boring or scary. They’re actually amazing—I just didn’t know enough about them!
