WITHIN A PLANT

It’s quarter past seven. Here’s Worker No. 55 in his green uniform, ready to start his job in the plant.

He works in Workshop 1001, which is located in the Leaf. Each workshop has between 20 to 100 workers. During the day, they collect sunlight and CO2. Right now, workers from the Root are sending up water. The water will travel up to the Leaf through the Stem. Then, the workers in the Leaf will mix water, CO2, and sunlight together.

What are they going to produce? Most importantly for them, they will make sugar! Sugar helps the plant grow. They will also produce oxygen, which the plant doesn't need much of, but it’s very important for animals and humans—they need it to breathe!

The workers work hard all day. Soon it will get dark, and they will take a rest.

There are millions of plants on Earth. They provide more than just food and oxygen. Without plants, the natural world would be very different!
