As dead as a dodo

Are you looking at me? Do you know who I am? I’m a dodo! You might think I’m just a character from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, but there used to be thousands of us—yes, we were real. Now, you can only find us in museums.

We lived on an island in the Indian Ocean. In the good old days, there was plenty of food, and all the other animals were friendly. Life was peaceful and safe.

However, everything changed in 1598 when humans arrived. They cut down the trees, and our beautiful forest disappeared. They hunted us because we were slow and couldn’t fly. Even worse, their pigs, cats, and dogs ate our eggs. As a result, we soon became extinct.

Now, we stand in museums around the world. When you see us, please remember our sad story. The world is full of amazing animals. Do your best to help them. Make them as happy as a clam, not as dead as a dodo.
