Silent Love Along a winding mountain road, a handsome young man walks swiftly, with an older man bearing a stern expression following closely behind. This scene is from my favorite film, Postmen in the Mountains. It's a profoundly touching story about the deep, often unspoken love between a father and his son. For many years, the father served as the postman for this remote area. His job frequently kept him away from home, and as a result, his son seldom saw him. Now, however, the son is stepping into his father’s shoes, taking over his position. The father accompanies him on his first day of work. During their journey, they begin to understand and appreciate each other’s feelings and experiences. For the first time, the son carries his father across a cold river. This act triggers a flood of memories for the father, reminding him of when he used to carry his son on his back. Tears quietly stream down his face as he recalls these precious moments. This film beautifully portrays the character of a traditional Chinese father. He feels immense pride in his son's growth but keeps his emotions deeply hidden. He doesn’t express his love through physical gestures like hugs or kisses. His love might be silent, but like a mountain, it is steadfast and ever-present. The story highlights the silent, enduring love that exists between them, showing that while words and gestures may be absent, the strength of their bond is unwavering. For them, love is not something to be shown outwardly, but something that is deeply felt and always there, providing support and strength. |
