WITHIN A PLANT It is now 7:15 in the evening. Here is Worker No. 55, clad in his green uniform, preparing to commence his duties at the factory. He is stationed at Workshop 1001 within the Plant. Each workshop houses between 20 to 100 workers who diligently perform their tasks. Throughout the day, they absorb sunlight and CO2. Simultaneously, workers from the Root system transport water upwards through the Stem to the Leaf. In the Leaf, these workers synthesize water, CO2, and sunlight. Their primary product is crucial for the plant's growth: sugar. Additionally, they produce oxygen, although the plant itself requires minimal amounts. This oxygen, however, holds great significance for animals and humans, essential for their respiration. The workers exert themselves tirelessly. As dusk approaches, they prepare to rest. Plants, numbering in the millions across the Earth, contribute far beyond sustenance and oxygen. Their absence would drastically alter the natural world as we know it. |
