When Duty Calls For Americans, holidays typically signify a break from work and joyful family gatherings. However, for Dr. Leng Wenying, holidays mean more work. As an emergency room doctor, Leng often misses family meals with her loved ones. She becomes even busier during holidays, sometimes working nonstop for 20 hours. This leaves her exhausted and parched. "Holidays are challenging because our patients are often in critical condition. We need to be ready every minute," says Leng. Leng's duty allows her little time to be with her family during holidays. Despite this, she never regrets her decision to be an ER doctor. "I make the most of every minute with my family. I'm very thankful for their support," she says. Leng is just one of millions of medical workers in China. They sacrifice their family time to fulfill their duty. In the hearts of every patient, their hard work shines brighter than festive fireworks.
