2.2 Description of Simple Harmonic Motion

Amplitude, Period, and Frequency:

- **Amplitude (A):** The maximum displacement of the object from its equilibrium position.
- **Period (T):** The time taken for one complete cycle of oscillation. It is given by:

T = 2π/ω

- **Frequency (f):** The number of oscillations per unit time. It is the reciprocal of the period:

f = 1/T

Phase and Phase Difference:

- **Phase (φ):** Describes the position of the oscillating object within its cycle at a specific point in time.
- **Phase Difference:** The difference in phase between two oscillating objects or two points in the same oscillation.

Example Problem:

An object undergoing SHM has a period of 2 seconds. What is its angular frequency?

Solution:

The angular frequency ω is given by:

ω = 2π/T = π rad/s
