2.4 Simple Pendulum
Definition: A simple pendulum consists of a mass
(called the bob) attached to a string or rod of fixed length, which swings
freely under the influence of gravity. For small angular displacements (less
than approximately 15 degrees), the motion of a simple pendulum can be
approximated as SHM. Period of a Simple Pendulum: The period T of a simple pendulum is given
by: T = 2π√(L/g) Example Problem:
A simple pendulum has a length of 1.5 m.
Calculate its period of oscillation. Solution:
Using the formula for the period: T ≈ 2.48 s |
